Sustainable Energy Workshop

Event Date:
Monday, May 10, 2010
Event Description:

Introduction
Most of human being's activities nowadays depend on the power generated from fossil fuel resources, but since we know that such sources like Oil, Gas and Coal, all are about to run away. If that's so, what should be the coming step? to put an end for our daily life? Or to go on?
Sure the answer is to go on, but how this can be achieved?
Today's technology speaks about other natural resources for power generation, which are permanent ones, those are known as: Renewable Energy Sources.
Renewable Energy Sources has many forms, the most common and beneficial sources to be used and implemented in the region are: Solar, Wind & Geothermal Energy.
What other issues that make concentrating on such sources that is they are considered friendly to environment, which means, that they have no bad impacts on the environment like pollution or whatever.

Since that, focusing on that topic is so important to be included within the new curricula of our educational institutions especially that it's a new principle which is not used here in Palestine as a daily life technology. The intention in fact is to try to raise up the qualifications of engineers and technicians here in Palestine in the fields of:  design, implementation and powering of the needs and activities regarding to the new energy sources, not only the theoretical side, but also the practical should be taken into account.
With purpose to study, design, and simulate the electromagnetic and power behaviors of  renewable energy resources a Matlab/ Simulink environment is used for this purpose.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities
1. Designing and conducting a training course using  Matlab/simulink in Alternative Energy, Solar and Wind Energy according to the Continuing Education Department (CED) requirements which include
Conducting the training course ( 32 hours over 4 days)
Preparing the training material.
Preparing a training plan for overall training and detailed plans for each meeting.
2. Preparing the required training material.
3. Evaluating the training course and training group.

Inviting American Training Experts
As well known production and management of Renewable Energy resources in USA have been dramatically developed in the past two decades, This was observed from the energy-sharing percentage in covering the community needs, number of research publications, creating advanced research centers in this field,  and the declaration of president Obama regarding to increasing the public awareness and Government support to this sector. Therefore inviting American Professor / Expert will help the university and Palestinian community in :
1. Developing  and  beneficiating  from existing of such resources.
2. Increasing our student's knowledge in the field of renewable energy production and management
3. Training on of American software and hardware products used in this field.
4. And Strengthening academic and e intercultural relations between Palestinian and American professors some practice in this field
The Target Group (Attendances)
The interested target group will be :
1. Professors and engineers from the Palestinian universities, research centers  and community colleges deals with energy and energy conversion ( 15 participants).
2. Engineers and managers from the Palestinian community and electrical power stations( 8 persons).
3. The PPU staff and PESPRU staff dealing with electrical energy and power electronics applications( 7 persons)

Minimum Requirements for the attendances
University degree at least master degree level in any related engineering fields (Electrical Energy Engineering, Industrial Automation Engineering and Mechatronics are  preferred).
